Island Tour by Boat

Most of the shorelines of Yap are covered by thick mangrove forests. Touring through calm and shallow channels in mangroves by boat, overlooking traditional men's houses on shoreline, is something you cannot miss.

Mangroves are shrubs or trees that grow in coastal intertidal zone. There are about 20 different species of mangroves in Yap despite being far away from the continent.

With mangroves, the islands are really protected from high waves caused by typhoons, tidal movement or even tsunami. Life in Yap has been quite dependent on these vegetations making use of them in every aspect.

It will be nice to leave early in the morning before the air is stirred by traffic to enjoy rich fragrance from the trees. Mornings and late afternoons are also good in sighting birds and fruit bats. You might be greeted by little red fiddler crabs or even a big mangrove crab on the way when the tide is relatively low.

Rumung is the northernmost island among the four islands that make Yap and where the biggest stone money in size lies. Since the island remains without road access from the other islands, you can visit there only by boat.

boat6

You may enjoy snorkeling during a boat tour or stop by on a beach to relax as long as the tide allows. Our boat tours are flexible according to your taste and interest. Please ask for arrangements you wish in advance.

boat7

Note that water activities in Yap are highly influenced by the tidal movement. Boat speed, water visibility, current conditions and starting time of every boat tour varies daily according to the tide.
